October 2026 Events in Truckee & North Lake Tahoe

October 1, 2026 by Ethan Pontz

Looking for Truckee October events or a reason to spend a fall weekend in North Lake Tahoe? October’s calendar brings together wine tasting, farmers markets, local makers, books, dark-sky experiences, and harvest celebrations. You can build a visit around one event or leave room to explore a few different communities.

Farmers markets, Oktoberfest, and local wine events are some of my favorite ways to enjoy the area. They also offer a different perspective from a ski trip or a day at the lake. If you are considering a home here, make time for everyday stops as well as the headline events. Here is my October 2026 shortlist, with organizer links to help you plan.

Truckee October events: start with food, wine, and local markets

1. Taste of Truckee

October 1–31 · Participating Truckee restaurants · Hours vary

If your visit does not line up with a festival weekend, Taste of Truckee gives you a month-long reason to explore the dining scene. Participating businesses offer special menus, food-and-drink pairings, or other featured items. Offers and prices differ, so choose a restaurant first and check its current menu and service hours.

I would use this as an opportunity to try somewhere beyond your usual stop. Browse participating restaurants and offers.

2. Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop

Saturday, October 3 · Noon–4 p.m. · Historic downtown Truckee

This is a chance to pair wine tasting and bite-sized food stops with browsing downtown businesses. The general event runs from noon to 4 p.m.; the earlier 11 a.m. experience is a separate VIP offering, so check your ticket before planning your arrival.

Bring comfortable shoes and arrange a designated driver if you are tasting. The organizer also offers a food-only designated-driver ticket. Explore Wine, Walk & Shop and review ticket options.

3. Farmers markets in Truckee and Tahoe City

Truckee: Tuesday, October 6 · 8 a.m.–1 p.m. · Truckee River Regional Park
Tahoe City: Thursdays · 8 a.m.–1 p.m. · Location changes October 29

For a more relaxed outing, work a market morning into your plans. Truckee’s current calendar confirms October 6. Tahoe City’s market is at Commons Beach on October 1, 8, 15, and 22, then moves to Boatworks Mall on October 29. That move matters: October 22 is not the end of the entire Tahoe City market season.

Check the Truckee market listing or the Tahoe City market organizer before heading out.

Look up: Truckee’s Keep It Dark Astrotourism Weekend

October 1–4, 2026 · Truckee area · Times and locations vary by activity

Keep It Dark brings together stargazing, photography, art and workshops while highlighting the importance of protecting Truckee’s night skies. The weekend includes the photo contest awards and exhibition, creative workshops, and dark-sky activities connected with Wine, Walk & Shop.

The October 1 Under the Truckee Tahoe Stars outing is listed as sold out by the Chamber. Check availability and registration for each remaining activity before making plans. Explore the official Keep It Dark weekend schedule.

October 9–11: choose your fall weekend

4. Tahoe Literary Festival

October 9–11 · Tahoe City · Times and venues vary by session

For readers and writers, the Tahoe Literary Festival offers workshops, panels, readings, and author conversations. This is a multi-session event rather than one continuous outdoor festival, so review the program and choose the activities that interest you. Tickets and registration requirements vary, and the Sunday retreat is a separate part of the weekend.

See the organizer’s program and registration links.

5. Tahoe Donner Fall Festival

Saturday, October 10 · 11 a.m.–4 p.m. · Northwoods Clubhouse, 11509 Northwoods Boulevard, Truckee

Tahoe Donner’s fall celebration brings together a pumpkin patch, music, crafts, and seasonal activities. It is open to the public, with different ticket pricing for members and public guests. Review age-based admission and ticket requirements before arriving, particularly if you are bringing children.

Check activities and purchase tickets through Tahoe Donner.

6. Truckee Oktoberfest at Alibi

Saturday, October 10 · Noon–6 p.m. · Alibi Truckee Public House, 10069 Bridge Street

The confirmed Alibi party includes music and Oktoberfest-style games, with beer tasting scheduled during the afternoon. Oktoberfest is one of the local fall traditions I enjoy, and this makes a natural downtown stop for anyone interested in the festivities.

Read Alibi’s main-event details. For additional activities around town, check the Truckee Oktoberfest weekend schedule.

7. Made in Tahoe Fall Festival

Visitors browse vendor tents at a past Made in Tahoe festival.

October 10–11 · 11 a.m.–5 p.m. both days · The Village at Palisades Tahoe, Olympic Valley

Made in Tahoe highlights local makers, artists, food, music, and entertainment. Admission is free, making it an easy option if you prefer to browse and decide how long to stay. With several events overlapping this weekend, I would choose one main outing and leave enough time to enjoy it.

Explore the festival at Palisades Tahoe.

8. Tahoe City Harvest Fest

Saturday, October 17 · 11 a.m.–3 p.m. · Tahoe City Community Center, 401 West Lake Boulevard

Harvest Fest features hayrides, carnival games, big trucks, bounce houses, and food trucks. Costumes are encouraged. Entry is free, but activity wristbands and food are separate purchases, so do not assume every part of the afternoon is included in admission.

Review current activity and wristband details with TCPUD.

Make the most of your October visit

Confirm dates, tickets, locations, and weather with each organizer before leaving. This guide reflects information checked on September 30, 2026; schedules and availability can change.
